Trekking in Everest Region or Khumbu Himalaya range is the most popular trekking in Nepal. It would probably be the most popular destination, but it is more difficult to get to Solu Khumbu than to the Annapurna area. To get near Everest, you must either walk for 10 days or fly to Lukla, a remote mountain airstrip where flights are notoriously unreliable. Solu Khumbu is justifiably famous, not only for its proximity to the world's highest mountain 8848 m, but also for its Sherpa villages and monasteries.

The primary goal of an Everest trek is the Everest base camp at an elevation of about 5340 m. But you cannot see Everest from the base camp, so most trekkers climb Kala Pathar, an unassuming 5545 m bump on the southern flank of Pumori 7145 m. Other than the problem of access, the other major complication to an Everest Trek is the high likelihood of Acute Mountain sickness (AMS). This potentially deadly disease, commonly known as altitude sickness, is caused by climbing too quickly to a high elevation. Be sure to read the section on mountain sickness in the Health & First aid chapter if you are planning an Everest trek. If you suffer symptons of altitude sickness and cannot go to base camp, you can still make a worth while trek to less ambitious destinations such as Namche Bazaar, the administrative Headquarters of the Khumbu region; Khumjung or Thame, more typical Sherpa villages; or Tyangboche Monastery. From Tengboche you will have an excellent view of Everest and its more spectacular neighbor Ama Dablam 6856 m.

A: Khumbu Circuit Trek ( Everest Base Camp & Gokyo Lake/Chola Pass Trek 5550 mtr )

This 16-day Everest trek has everything: the incredible mountain views from Chukung, Kala Pathar and Gokyo Ri. Popularly known as "The Ultimate Trek", it includes all that the khumbu has to offer including the fascinating villages and Tibetan Buddhist monasteries and the culture and hospitality of the Sherpa people, who will surely win your hearts. After starting with a flight to Lukla (2,805 m/9,200 ft) we trek up to Kala Pathar view point (5,550 m /18,200 ft) and then veer off the main trail to cross the Cho La pass (5,422m/17,783 ft ) into the Gokyo valley. To top off this unique trek we climb Gokyo Ri (5,488 m /18,000 ft) for a panoramic view of the greatest mountain scenery in the world - including five 8000 + m/ 26,000+ ft giants and myrid other peaks of the Khumbu Himal. Moderate to strenous trekking from 2,805 m (9,200 ft) to 4,940 m (16,200 ft) with one pass crossing of 5,422 m (17,783 ft) and day hikes up to 5550 m (18,200 ft). B: Everest Panorama Trek

This 13-day of trip offers excellent views of Mt. Everest and the main peaks of the Khumbu without going to extreme altitudes. Starting with a flight to Lukla air stripe trek in to Namche Bazaar, the principle town of the area and the Sherpa 'capital.' After a day of acclimatization we explore the traditional Sherpa villages of Kunde and Khumjung set amongst incredible mountain scenery. We then trek to Thyangboche - the site of Nepal's most sacred Buddhist monastery. The views from this ridge above the Dudh Kosi river is possibly the most beautiful with Mt. Everest looming over the Lhotse Ridge and Ama Dablam towering above the monastery. C: Everest Base Camp / Kalapatther Trek 5550 mtr.
